BANGKOK 08-09 DEC: SETTLING IN / SHOPPING

BACK FROM BANGKOK! this was my first 'girlfriend' trip with the bestie where all we did were shopping, eating, taking selfies, going for massages... and then shopping some more. haha we both agreed girlfriend trips should definitely happen more frequently. also, a very timely break from my work - been waiting for this for too damn long.

happy faces waiting for our flight!

super lucky to be assigned seats with extra leg space! we couldn't get over this for a really long time.

DAY 0

after we touched down at DMK airport, we decided to hail a taxi to get to our hostel. thankfully the taxi service queue was really well managed by airport staff and even though there were shitloads of tourists in the queue, we got to the start of the line pretty fast. they even issued receipts in English and Thai so we understood that a 50B processing fee was payable on top of the meter fare. kinda assuaged my initial paranoia that the taxis were gonna drive us to some godforsaken place and enslave us for all eternity. bangkok taxis from DMK airport are good to go!

finally arrived at the place where we were gonna stay for the next 4 nights - Good Day Hostel! this was super centrally located at Soi Petchburi 15 (5 min walk from Platinum Mall / Pantip Plaza and 5 min walk from Pratunam Market, not to mention countless of massage parlours and good food in the area!). this place is so good, it deserves another exclusive review post on its own. stay tuned!

our cosy twin bunk bedroom (:

i got top bunk! they even had a small vanity table at the end of the bunk so it was so convenient to dump all my stuff there.

dining area on the second floor

after we were settled in, we decided to head out for some great BKK street food!

Phad Thai by the streets - only 45B (approx. S$2)!

after that, we turned in early for the night because we were looking at...

DAY 1

a full day of shopping at Platinum Fashion Mall!! convenient located across the street :)

needless to say, it was shopping paradise for both of us, and i think especially for Y since it was her first time there haha. only the first day and we were already more than halfway through our budget :( :(

lunch was at the Platinum food court, located on the 5th floor of Zone 1. affordable food prices with a great variety. i always come back for their pig's trotters rice and the papaya salad!

after that, we decided to have our first massage experience for this trip and we selected one of the shops that were along the street where our hostel was because it was recommended on ladyironchef's blog.

conclusion? DO NOT VISIT NUMBER ONE MASSAGE. both of us hated our experience there.
(this blogger also concurs.)

a terrible picture of the place to match up to the terrible service there.

during the massage, i had to keep questioning myself if thai massages were supposed to hurt because my body was literally clenching up every time she pressed onto my body. not exactly my idea of a relaxing massage... Y had it worse because her masseuse was only pressing along her skin instead of at the right acupoints.

it wasn't until we tried another massage parlour - Arunda Massage - that we realised how much we were missing out because this parlour offered an almost spa-like ambience with dedicated service at EXACTLY THE SAME PRICE. and it was just a few more steps down the street .___.

more on this here

moral of the story? don't trust everything the online community recommends.

and that was it for Day 1 of our trip!
