wicked

so the past three days... have been nothing short of a semi-fairytale. would have been perfect material for an epic date if not for the fact that... well i'm not ready to feel that way yet haha. but anyway, we went to watch WICKEDDD :D honestly, i didn't go with much expectations because 1. it was my first ever play 2. i've never heard of the storyline before 3. never was much of a Wizard of Oz fan. and before i went, i was hearing so much about how amazing the musical was yet i still had my doubts. how could anything possibly be worth $158?! BUT I WAS COMPLETELY MINDBLOWN. the sets gave perfect embellishment, the choreography was beautiful, the script was so cleverly written, and the singing was just - omg - hauntingly amazing. every note was created with superb execution and control, it gave us goosebumps each time ooh. not forgetting the brilliant references back to Wizard of Oz and how all the pieces just fell into place because everything was woven so tightly together! but i think, most of all, i loved how the play worked with the theme of appearances vs. reality; how people tend to attribute beauty with kindness and ugliness with evil, how superficial that is in turn, and how people are more than the labels that define them. i'm really glad my first musical experience turned out to be so much more than i had expected (:
