back from MJ dance camp '11 and it was INSANE! :D think it has to be one of my best memories in MJ and especially with the comm (: all the precious preparation times planning and debating during meetings, doing the gameboard; the awesome classes with the crazy instructors; having fun with the CHAMPION captains (!) and not forgetting QCP on the second night when we laughed our asses off through the night. this was really one of the rare moments when i could really feel the MJ love. it was real and unpretentious, because we sincerely are a bunch of fun-loving people who have so much heart for each other ((: really glad i got to know so many people much better now. and judging by the number of good comments we got, i think our comm did a pretty good job this time round ((:
right now i have two tiger balm plasters on my lower back now - that was how insane the past three days were. before that i couldn't even get up properly from sitting/squatting position ._. pain like dunno what fk. haha but it was soooo worth it. the takeaways from each instructor:
dancing with soul, letting the dance speak for itself [carol/reggae]
understanding the intention behind each move, and believing in it [fredy/street jazz]
IMAGE & looking at yourself in the mirror, developing style [an an/hip hop]
dancing for the love of it, rejecting the perception of freestyling with prepared vocabulary [michael/popping]
dougie is abt the shoulders, importance of basics [kate/hip hop]
perfecting the choreography, thinking in shapes and emotions [erwin/lyrical]
creativity in dance, and how it's always about self-expression more than anything else [felix/bboy]
feeling the choreography out and injecting your own flavour [pat/hip hop]
so that pretty much summed up what i've learnt from the past three days (: and it's really heartwarming to see how passionate the instructors were in teaching when they went the extra mile to dispense valuable advice and share anecdotal experiences. humility and passion is still the best way to go. dance for yourself and no one else. still a long way to go for me but i'll get there (:
